Braids and laces limited, originally founded in 1936 by Harry Terry, has grown from a small shoelace manufacturer in downtown Toronto to one of North America’s trusted names in braided cord and rope production. With nearly a century of experience, Braids and laces limited proudly carries forward the legacy of quality, innovation, and exceptional service to meet the ever-evolving needs of our customers.
Starting with shoelaces for Toronto’s thriving shoe manufacturing industry, we quickly expanded during World War II, producing braided cord for ammunition box handles. The growth of our business during this pivotal time led us to open additional warehouse space and a sales office in Willowdale.
By the early 1960s, we diversified our product line to include skate laces and marine ropes, prompting a move to a larger 14,400 square-foot facility one hour northeast of Toronto, where we still operate today.
As a family-owned business, our passion for innovation has been passed down through generations. Ted and Candace Terry took the reins in 1949, followed by their children Peter and Mike Terry in the 1970s. In 2008, Barb (Terry) and Henk Klei, representing the 4th generation, assumed ownership and began modernizing operations to enhance production efficiency and continue delivering the exceptional quality our customers expect.
Today, we are proud to be at the forefront of the textile manufacturing industry. Under Barb and Henk’s leadership, we’ve invested in advanced equipment and streamlined production processes to craft ropes and braided products that meet the highest standards in durability and reliability. We continually strive to innovate, reduce waste, and minimize our environmental impact — because what’s good for the environment is good for business.
Our dedication to quality has earned us the trust of industries ranging from industrial applications to arborists, marine, military, utilities, construction, entertainment and more.
At Braids and laces limited, we don’t just manufacture products; we build relationships. As passionate leaders and owners, we care deeply about our customers’ satisfaction. Whether you need custom braided solutions or have specific requirements, we are here to ensure you get the best value, quality, and service. Our philosophy is simple: honesty, integrity, and a commitment to doing what’s right for our customers, our employees, and the environment.
